Hi all! It looks like it is going to be quite a rainy weekend here on Cape Cod, and I personally plan on enjoying the beginning of the Premier League, listening to my next ARC, and reading. I love to spend rainy weekends just relaxing, and I cannot think of a better way to spend the weekend.
If you are looking for a way to spend your rainy day, may I recommend preordering this perfect fall read, One for the Road by Elliot Fletcher. I got this one from our friends at NetGalley and HarperAudio to review and share with you all!
So friends, this book is about burned-out doctor Alistair Macabe, yes, the MD kind, who is returning to his rental on the Isle of Skye in the rain after leaving his father’s funeral as soon as he could. Only there is a broken-down VW Beetle on the road. He really just wants to get back to his rental, and this lady is blocking the road. He needs her to turn back around, since there is no reason for her to be out this far, so he can be on his way. She seems to be tinkering around when he gets out of the car and offers to help. He is an MD, how hard can it be?
Isla cannot believe this guy. The nerve. She is broken down in the rain after this gifted car from her late grandmother has overheated. She is on her way to the “quaint” rental for her and her daughter after her ex-husband got back together with his childhood sweetheart, Annabelle, who she tried to be friends with! They had coffee and even a girls’ trip! Now, she is left moving to this cabin with her daughter in the middle of this horrible storm, and this man who thinks he knows everything is bothering her. She just needs to wait for her car to cool down so she can be on her way.
With their rocky start setting up this enemies-to-lovers novel, what can go wrong? Well, there is a lot, and it starts when the house Isla and her daughter are renting just so happens to be the same one Alistair made a deal with the rental company for so he could have the duplex to himself. Alistair is Grumpy, and yes, that is with a capital G. It seems like every little noise Isla and her daughter make, he is pounding on the walls. Alistair is trying to sell the medical practice his dad left him. No one wants to purchase it, and the main problem he comes across is his reputation.
Isla needs her ex to help with her daughter and pay his side of the child support. When she With the help of Isla, who is trying to win a baking contest for couples set up by the town and if it drives her ex crazy in the meantime, even better—he agrees to let her help him rehabilitate his image. Only, in the meantime, the more they learn about each other, the more they start to fall.
If you are a fan of enemies-to-lovers, fake dating, small towns, forced proximity, single mom romances, and grumpy x sunshine, then this is the perfect book for you. I also loved the narration from Isobel Wood and Angus King. The dual narration was very well done. Both Isobel and Angus were able to bring their respective characters to life and flawlessly matched each other’s energy and vibes.
I recommend you pick up the audiobook for One for the Road by Elliot Fletcher when it releases on August 25th.
Until next time, my friends, I hope you have a great weekend filled with great reads and some time to relax doing the things you love.
