Audiobook Review: Autumn on My Mind by Gracie Ruth Mitchell

Rating: ⭐⭐½ (2.5/5)

Hi friends! Happy Tuesday! If you have been reading my reviews for a while, you will know that I went to Sinners and Stardust this weekend, and man, was it a blast. I added over 15 new books to my TBR shelf and was introduced to a few new authors. It was a fantastic weekend. If you ever find yourself wondering if you should go to that book event, the answer is definitely yes! While I got a ton of new reads, I need to share with you a book that comes out tomorrow Autumn on My Mind. First off, thank you to NetGalley, Gracie Ruth Mitchell, and Dreamscape Select for a copy of this audiobook to review.

I hate to say that this book was just middle of the road for me. I was excited to get some fall reads, and the description and cover of this book made it seem like one I would thoroughly enjoy. However, in reality, it just did not hit the mark.

When exes Reese and Dominic see each other again, they do not expect it to be across the table from one another while their parents announce they are dating. They secretly dated in college five years ago, but they never told anyone before separating and going their own ways. Now, five years later, they can agree on at least one thing: their parents should not be together. So, they do the next best thing: try to break them up. Spying and sabotage are on the menu. What is not on the menu is catching feelings for her ex.

Honestly, the best thing about this story is the narrator, and she is the reason I rounded that 2.5 up instead of down. Ellen Quay did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. She voiced all of the characters and did a great job differentiating between them.

This is book 2 of 8 in an interconnected standalone series by different authors, and you definitely do not need to read the other books in the series to understand this one. However, perhaps reading book one may have made this book more enjoyable for me.

My biggest problem with this book is that the pacing was off. About 90 percent of the book drags on with Reese and Dominic’s parents dating and the hijinks that come from their attempts to interfere. Then the payoff comes in the last 10 percent of the book. After that, we get an epilogue that jumps ahead five years. With as much buildup as we get around the relationship between Reese and Dominic, it was a letdown when they finally get together, only for the story to end.

If you are looking for a cozy fall romance with second chances, small-town vibes, and a little parent-trap-style sabotage, this may be the book for you. For me, though, the pacing kept it from being the fall read I was hoping for.

Until next time, friends, I hope your next read is 5 stars and that you get some cozy reading time this fall!
