Audiobook Review: Out of Her League by Ava Rani

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5)

Happy Friday, friends! I am so glad that the weekend is here. It is supposed to be rainy all weekend here on the Cape, so I am going to enjoy the sunshine today and the warm spring day while I can. Since it is May and the beaches will be filling up soon, this feels like the perfect time to head to your indie bookstore and pick up a copy of Out of Her League by Ava Rani.

I got this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, and I am so glad I did because this one was such a treat. This book is about Isabelle Mercado, or Isa for short. She is a 30-year-old surgical resident with two rockstar parents in the medical world, and she has big ambitions to live up to her dad’s reputation and maybe even surpass her mother, who stayed in medicine but did not reach the heights she could have after having Isa. She meets our MMC, soccer legend Austin Cade, while filling in for a check-up on his knee.

That’s right, friends, soccer. You know I am a sucker for soccer in a romance book. Hockey romance is everywhere, but we need more soccer in romance books.

Anyway, Isa is heading to her best friend Selina’s destination wedding in Paris for two weeks, and she is the Maid of Honor. She attends a charity auction with the bride, where she meets her ex’s fiancée. He moved on rather quickly. Her friend is not going to let her win the auction she is bidding on, so Isa outbids the fiancée and does not let the fact that she does not know what she is bidding on stop her. A cool million later, Isa realizes she bid on a four-week class with Austin. She has other plans though, because instead she gets him to attend the wedding as her date, well, her fake date. It is a win-win, as Austin needs the good PR and is looking at coaching opportunities in Europe. Only will they be able to pull it off? Will they fall for each other for real?

I absolutely adored this book. The sweet moments, like when Isa helps her friend by distracting the press at the wedding, or when Isa helps Austin get funds for his foundation, made this story even better. I also loved the moments where Isa has to deal with her parents’ disapproval of her life choices. It is very well written, and if you are looking to diversify your shelves, this one is a must-get.

The narrators, Vikas Adam and Vanessa Vasquez, were phenomenal. They really helped bring Isa and Austin to life. It is not a narrator pair I have heard before, but they did not disappoint.

I highly recommend preordering this one today. It arrives on May 12th from Avon Publishing. Until then, I hope you have a great weekend and that it is not rainy where you are.
