Book Review: Tropesick by Lauren Okie

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Hello, my friends! I just finished Tropesick by Lauren Okie, and I am so excited to tell you all about it. This is another story I received from NetGalley, along with Avon and Harper Voyager, for my honest review. I just turned off my Kindle and had to come share right away, because this book was FABULOUS. It was such a fun, engaging read, and that twist absolutely delivered on the tropes in the best way.

This story focuses on Katie Caruso, ghostwriter for the bestselling romance novelist of all time, Meredith Bradford. She is also the overlooked daughter whose grieving parents cannot seem to support her the way she needs. Her brother, who passed away from an overdose, is a big part of Katie’s story. She grew up loving the boy next door, Tyler, her brother’s best friend, but it is not until Katie’s co-novelist backs down that Tyler, who is a writer too, re-enters the picture. Only Tyler does not believe in love. Katie sets him on a path of reading and watching popular romance books and movies to discover their tropes. Meanwhile, Meredith seems to have them acting out their own tropes for the book.

What I loved most about Lauren Okie’s newest novel was how much it leaned into everything that makes romance enjoyable. It had great chemistry between our stars Katie and Tyler, a strong supporting character in Meredith, and just the right mix of humor, love, and redemption. Lauren Okie obviously knows how to give readers a story that feels both entertaining and easy to get swept up in. I did not want to put this book down.

Katie and Tyler were so easy to root for, and I really enjoyed watching their relationship form over the course of this story. I found myself wanting to keep going just to see what would happen next. Who needs sleep? And that twist, I did not see that coming. I love a book that can surprise me. I read a lot of romance books, so a surprise is what put this book over the top for me and made me give this story 5 stars.

If you love a romance that fully embraces its tropes and gives you a story with not only love, but growth, redemption, and strong women, then Tropesick is one I would definitely recommend to you.

So, go out and preorder Tropesick now. This one releases on June 16, 2026. Until then, grab a book from your TBR and find a comfy spot to count down the days to the release.

Happy reading, friends!
