Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Hello, my friends! It is Wednesday, and let me just tell you, I literally squealed with glee when I got the notification yesterday from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca that I received a copy of Shattered Gods by Katee Robert to review with you all. I absolutely love this reimagining of the gods of Olympus and their relationships, and Shattered Gods is the final book in this epic series. I luckily was just about to finish another read, and I jumped into this story immediately.
This story starts off with Musewatch, a very short recap of books 1 through 9. If you have not read the earlier books, not only do you need to because they are excellent, but you will also be missing too much to fully grasp this book. The story starts right away, and I love that because you should be fully aware of who our characters are by now. This book focuses on Circe’s story, with a brief recap of how she was the wife of the late Zeus, who tried to kill her, but he did not succeed. Now she has a vendetta to enact on the Thirteen, never mind that these Thirteen are not their predecessors. The new Zeus is not as bad as his father, Hades protects the people of the Lower City, and Hermes is more than meets the eye.
Now, normally, I give you some details that happen throughout the first third of the book, but because this story jumps right in and it’s the final story, here is my spoiler-free review.
Last we left this story, certain members of the Thirteen were taking refuge in the Lower City as the barrier that once protected Olympus had fallen. Circe is determined to kill the members of the Thirteen, their offspring, and anyone who has a claim to the positions in case of the legacy titles. She wants to give the power to the people of Olympus. Hermes and Atalanta want a new Olympus as well, only they want to do it without the bloodshed. Oh, and did I mention Circe and Hermes were lovers 15 years ago before Zeus forced her into marriage and tried to kill her?
Now Hermes has Atalanta watching her back, and she has feelings for her as well. Hermes also still has some feelings for Circe, the woman who got away. There are growing feelings between the trio, but can Circe give up her vendetta? Will Hermes decide bloodshed is the way to go and get on Circe’s team? And where will Atalanta fall into this trio? All of this is answered in this thrilling final story.
Katee Robert is an excellent writer, and this book is no exception. They have an excellent story with the reimagined lives of the gods of Olympus and their people. These books feature love in all its forms, the politics of the gods, and the games they play, all told in a thrilling story that spans all 10 novels. Whether you are diving into all ten books this summer or you are a longtime fan of the series, this book is a must read. Shattered Gods releases June 2nd from our friends at Sourcebooks Casablanca. Preorder it now, or be first in line at your local bookstore to pick up this book.
I cannot wait to grab the audiobook myself for this book and listen to it when it is ultimately released. Also, for all you Kindle Unlimited subscribers, books 1 through 8 are available in KU for free, so now is a great time to reread them if you do not own them already.
Until next time, my friends, I wish you nothing but 5 star reads! Happy Reading.
