Book Review: Lessons in Forgiving by Selina Mae

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Hello friends! I’m back with another review, and this time it’s for Lessons in Forgiving by Selina Mae. A huge thank-you to the author, NetGalley, and LYX for providing me with an e-book copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is the second in the series, following Lessons in Faking, and it’s Henry and Paula’s story. We first met Henry in book one, where he played a pretty substantial role for a side character, and Paula was also briefly mentioned. While you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy this book, it does give you a little more insight into Henry and his backstory. You may like knowing more about what makes Henry tick.

Henry is the kind of guy who likes structure. He plans everything, hates surprises, and sticks to his routines. Paula, on the other hand, is his total opposite. She’s always running late, rushing into her day, and full of spontaneity. Of course, opposites attract, but their relationship hits a rough patch when a pretty big issue forces them apart.

A note for anyone picking up this story: It’s told with time jumps, which I really liked. We get these memory-style flashbacks that slowly reveal the full picture of what happened between our main characters. Instead of just dumping all the details at once, Selina Mae lets the story unfold in pieces, which kept me turning the pages, wanting to know where things went wrong between Paula and Henry and whether they could make it right again.

I loved seeing how Henry and Paula’s personalities balanced each other out, even when things got messy. Their journey felt honest, emotional, and relatable. They do say opposites attract for a reason! It’s a great second-chance romance built around forgiveness, learning to trust again, and realizing that love sometimes means letting go of your idea of perfection. Love is messy sometimes.

So friends, overall, I really enjoyed this book (and book one too!). I’d recommend it to anyone who loves new adult main characters, second-chance romances, or stories where trust and forgiveness are central to the plot.

Until next time, friends, I hope you find a cozy reading spot, a warm beverage, and plenty of uninterrupted time to enjoy your next great book.
