Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)
Hello friends! I hope you got everything you wanted for the holidays, and if you didn’t, head out and treat yourself! Life’s too short, make sure you get something that brings you joy. I spent my holiday break reading up a storm, and I have several soon-to-be-released books I’ll be reviewing over the next few posts. The first is Most Eligible, the rom-com debut from Isabelle Engel. This book & Audiobook release on January 13th. Also, a big thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the audiobook to review, though as always, it didn’t impact my rating.
What a delightful way to kick off my 2026 reading (and listening) goals! Isabelle’s debut is clever, funny, and full of heart. The story follows Georgia Rose, a journalist sent undercover to write an exposé on Love Shack, a “find your soulmate” reality TV show that promises to help its bachelor find true love. Sound familiar? It’s the kind of setting reality TV junkies will eat up. The season’s bachelor is tennis pro Roland Marchetti, who’s recovering from an injury and takes on the challenge as the show celebrates its 20th season. And fans, brace yourselves, Season 18’s bachelor, Rhett Auburn, is returning as host after his very public divorce!
Things take a turn when one of the contestants, our Georgia, catches Rhett’s attention for all the wrong reasons. Georgia, now undercover and trying to protect her identity for the sake of her article, also happens to be the woman Rhett had a one-night stand with. Only, he knows her real name, and if he lets that slip, her entire plan could fall apart. It’s a fun, fast-paced, behind-the-scenes peek into the world of reality TV, complete with manipulative producers, unexpected friendships, and a touch of real romance.
The audiobook narration by Amanda Leigh Cobb was engaging throughout. She handled a large cast of characters with clear distinction and kept the pacing light and lively, which suits a rom-com perfectly. My only small holdback here is that I would have loved a duet narration, especially to bring Roland and Rhett’s voices to life. Still, Amanda did an excellent job carrying the humor and chemistry of the story.
Most Eligible had me laughing, gasping, and genuinely rooting for Georgia. Isabelle Engel’s writing struck the perfect balance between witty and heartfelt, making this a charming debut that left me smiling. The story flowed beautifully, with just the right blend of romantic tension and chaos from the Love Shack production team.
If you’re a fan of reality dating shows or simply want an easy, entertaining rom-com to dive into this winter, add this one to your list- you won’t be disappointed. Until next time, friends, I hope you find a cozy reading spot, a warm beverage, and plenty of uninterrupted time to enjoy your next great book.
