Hi friends! I was able to get my hands on an advanced copy of If All Else Sails by Emma St. Clair thanks to our friends at Netgalley. This story is a feel-good romance that delivers everything you want in a late summer read and kinda even a hockey romance (more on that later). Emma St. Clair masterfully combines humor, heart, and slow-burn chemistry in this story of forced proximity and unexpected love.
Our main girl, Josie is a sunny and relatable school nurse who thinks she’s headed for a super fun sibling vacation, only to discover her brother has tricked her into caring for his grumpy friend and client, Wyatt, who is a professional hockey player that has been sidelined by injury. What starts as a reluctant favor quickly spirals into a series of hilarious mishaps including Josie getting arrested, witty banter, and undeniable attraction.
If you are a fan of the “grumpy/sunshine” trope, you will love this book with its laugh-out-loud moments (including animal antics and a memorable pig and poison ivy scene), and a slow-burn romance that is swoon worthy. St. Clair’s writing is breezy and engaging, making the pages fly by as Josie and Wyatt navigate not just the literal waters during their sailing trip, but their own emotional baggage and misunderstandings.
There is plenty to love in this book, but one thing that stood out in this book is its depth. Both characters experience real growth and healing, making their eventual connection all the more satisfying when it happens. The sailing adventure adds a unique twist, and the inclusion of a lovable animal sidekick only ups the charm and the wardrobe.
If you’re looking for a clean, uplifting romance with humor, heart, and memorable characters, then If All Else Sails is a must-read for you. It is perfect for fans of contemporary rom-coms and anyone looking for a nice end-of-summer read. Pre-order this book now from your favorite book seller!
