Book Review: Five Brothers by Penelope Douglas

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Happy Monday, Bookish friends!

As promised, here is your weekly review from yours truly this week. After last week’s review of Tryst Six, reading this stand-alone novel set in the same world was a no-brainer as my next read. Five Brothers focuses on the brothers from the wrong side of the tracks, which I definitely wanted to know more about, so I hope you did as well.

Penelope Douglas has once again given us a novel that, if you’re anything like me, will keep you hooked from start to finish. This is Krisjen’s story, which you may remember is friends with Clay from Tryst Six. But you won’t just get Krisjen’s perspective, you’ll also hear Trace, Army, Iron, Dallas, and Macon’s as well. Penelope Douglas is a master at crafting a complex story, and you will get the chance to connect with each brother. The plot is well-paced and has plenty of twists and turns. You get to really see the dynamics of the family and their role in the community, and of course, the romance and love between Krisjen and the family. There is a lot of tension and interesting family dynamics at play. The storylines are woven together beautifully, but there is only a resolution between one of the Tryst Six brothers and Krisjen. In order to keep this spoiler-free, I won’t tell you which one.

Now on to the steamy parts, yes parts as in multiple. There are a lot of romantic elements and some carnal ones that add to the overall story, adding even more complexity to the relationships. You should expect this if you are a fan of Penelope Douglas, but this book is definitely for those of you 18+ and if you’re listening to the audio version, earbuds are your friends.

Overall I give “Five Brothers” 4/5 stars. I really wish we would have seen more of a resolution for the other brothers in this book and while I know this is a stand-alone, I really hope their story is not done yet. I am not ready to say goodbye to this family and I hope Ms. Douglas is not quite done with them as well, as their story just doesn’t feel complete.

Until next time, my friends, find a comfy spot to read with your favorite holiday beverage (Have you tried that Merry cran-orange refresher from Starbucks yet?), a good book, and happy reading!
