My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Welcome back, book lovers! Today, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on Faye Delacour’s debut novel, “The Lady He Lost.” This is an ARC I got from Netgalley that hits shelves tomorrow April 2nd. As a fan of historical romance, this book truly captured my heart with its themes of second chances, independence, a little spice, and of course, a dash of drama.
The story revolves around Jane Bishop, a young woman who, after being orphaned, finds herself living with her uncle and cousin, Cecily. Jane’s life takes an unexpected turn when Eli Williams, a friend from her past and someone she once harbored feelings for, reappears after being presumed dead in a shipwreck. Did I mention he also is Cecily’s ex??? Things are never easy, especially with Cecily’s involvement and Jane’s determination to be more than just a second choice.
One of the aspects I loved most about this book is the depth of the characters and their relationships. Jane’s struggle for independence and her dynamic with Eli kept me hooked from start to finish. Delacour expertly weaves in themes of friendship, trust, and personal growth, making the story relatable and engaging.
The audiobook narration by Blythe Fortune helped to bring the story to life. Fortune’s captivating narration style made the characters seem like you were there hearing the story firsthand, making the listening experience thoroughly enjoyable.
While “The Lady He Lost” is a standalone novel at this point, I couldn’t help but hope for more stories involving the ladies from the gambling club. Delacour’s writing style is engaging and fast-paced, making it easy to become invested in Jane and Eli’s journey towards love and reconciliation. It is her debut though, so could some more of the gambling club ladies’ stories happen in the future? Only time will tell.
Overall my friends, I highly recommend “The Lady He Lost” to fans of historical romance looking for a captivating read filled with second chances and strong-willed characters. Faye Delacour’s debut promises an exciting future. Keep an eye out for this author—I’m certain her future works will be just as enchanting.
Until next time, find a cozy reading nook with a cup of your favorite beverage and happy reading!
