My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Series: Crescent City
Hello book friends! If you’re anything like me, You have had your nose glued to the page of the next installment in Sarah J. Maas’s Crescent City series, since it came out on January 31. If you aren’t, and let me tell you you’re missing out, “House of Flame and Shadow” did not disappoint! It’s a solid 5/5 stars from this excited reader, and let me break down why in as much as a spoiler-free way as I can.
From the first page of this series, I was hooked. This book is no different. It takes us on an exhilarating ride through a world beyond Midgard, filled with magic, danger, and unexpected alliances. If you thought the previous books were action-packed, hold onto the armrests of your comfy chair, because this one takes it to a whole new level.
As you know our beloved Bryce Quinlan finds herself stranded in a strange new world, far away from everything she holds dear. Fans will recognize this world even though Bryce does not. The stakes are higher, the challenges are tougher, and Bryce is pushed to her limits. As a fan of the series, witnessing her evolution was empowering. It’s like catching up with an old friend who has been through the wringer and emerged stronger than ever.
And of course, let’s not forget about our swoon-worthy hero, Hunt Athalar. He’s faced his fair share of hardships, and now, he’s in a predicament that definitely seems like the last one he’ll ever endure. If you are a fan of this series you know that the chemistry between Bryce and Hunt crackles off the pages, its full of intensity and emotion that keeps you turning page, after page, after page. You’ll find yourself rooting for their love to triumph over the challenges thrown their way, and there are many.
One of the aspects that sets this book apart is Maas’s ability to craft a world so vivid and rich in detail. The Asteri’s dungeons, the unpredictable landscapes, and the characters’ complex emotions are described with such depth that you feel it yourself, you see these places yourself. It’s a testament to the author’s storytelling ability.
