Book Review: Switched by Sarah Ready

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Series: Ghosted

Well, it’s Monday again friends. I hope you had a great weekend hopefully time to read a good book. Today, I want to talk to you about a story I was lucky to get my hands on that’s coming out next month, “Switched” by Sarah Ready. Buckle up my friends because I’m handing out a perfect 5 stars to this story that’s as unique as a particle collider experiment gone wild. Get ready for the unexpected ride.

Meet Serena Otaki, a free-spirited Californian whose love for smashing atoms at The Large Hadron Collider is as bold as her love for Star Trek and spicy tofu. On the other side of the pond, we have Henry Joules, an uptight Brit who enjoys making analog black holes, sipping piping hot tea, and keeping his pencil tray meticulously organized.

Life seems perfect for both Serena and Henry until one fateful night when they meet, and after the best romp, Henry declares his love, and Serena freaks out and grabs her phone before retreating to the bathroom. While looking at her emails she finds she has a new supervisor…. Henry! She runs and stops this before it really begins.

Except…. the universe decides to play a little prank on them. A little over a year later and an unexpected event at the particle collider leads to a switch – Serena finds herself in Henry’s body, and Henry lands in Serena’s. Cue the chaos, the hilarity, and a journey that defies the laws of both physics and love.

What makes “Switched” an absolute standout is the sheer uniqueness of the story. Such as when Serena breaks the 4th wall and talks to us. Sarah Ready takes the concept of a body switch and injects it with humor, heart, and a touch of cosmic magic. The collision of Serena’s free-spirited chaos with Henry’s uptight order creates a dynamic made Serena’s character relatable to me. I also love the opposites attract trope.

The writing style is as engaging as the premise itself. Ready’s ability to weave humor into the narrative, coupled with her vivid descriptions, brings the characters and their unconventional predicament to life. From Serena’s messy apartment to Henry’s spotless home, the contrasting elements add layers to the storytelling. I also loved how Ready gave us a mention of the characters in Ghosted. But don’t worry if you haven’t read it, this book while 2nd in the series stands on its own.

The chemistry between Serena and Henry, despite being in each other’s bodies, is electric. The way they navigate this unexpected twist in their lives is not only hilarious but also surprisingly touching. The story explores the idea that love is not confined to appearances or the expected norms, and sometimes, it takes a cosmic mix-up to reveal the true connection between two souls.

So my friends, “Switched” is a must-read for those who crave a story that breaks the mold. With its perfect blend of humor, heart, and a touch of cosmic mischief, Sarah Ready’s novel is a delightful escape into a world where love knows no boundaries. So, grab the phone, ask Google or Siri to connect you to your favorite bookstore and reserve yourself a copy of this story. If you don’t have a favorite bookstore head on over to Amazon or Barnes & Noble and pre-order this one, It hits the shelves on February 20th, 2023. In the meantime, pick up the first in the series Ghosted, find a comfy spot and a cup of your favorite beverage, and prepare for a journey that’s as entertaining as it is heartwarming. Happy reading!
