Book Review: Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert

Series: Dark Olympus, Book 6
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ .5

Hey friends, Happy Monday! Today I want to chat with you about the latest addition to the Dark Olympus series – “Midnight Ruin” by the ever-talented Katee Robert. If you’ve been following the series like I have, you are in for a treat, and if you haven’t, well, it’s never too late to join the adventure, hop into the world of gods, romance, and in this book a touch of puppy play. BookTok is sure to be talking about this one for weeks to come.

I’m giving a solid 4.5 stars on this one, and here’s why.

First things first friends, Eurydice Dimitriou. You may remember her as the little sister we all want to protect from earlier novels? Well, the innocent sister has stepped into the limelight, ready to shed her past and embrace a future on her terms. It’s about time, right? And who better to help her forget that heartbreak than Charon Ariti, Hades’s right-hand man? The chemistry between Eurydice and Charon is off the charts, and their journey is as steamy as it is thrilling.

Are you a little disappointed that Eurydice and Orpheus aren’t married in this story?

But wait, there’s more! Enter Orpheus Makos, the once golden boy of the upper city, now a shadow of his former self. He’ll do what he needs to do to win Eurydice back, even if it means a trio of tangled hearts and a whole lot of mess. This sixth book in the series explores the complexities of love, loss, and of course the messy politics of Olympus.

Now this book isn’t for everyone. There are a bunch of trigger warnings including violence, murder, abortion (off page), and consensual kink. Katee Robert doesn’t shy away from diving into the less traditional, darker, and more spicy aspects of her characters’ lives. Certain readers might need to approach some scenes with caution or avoid this book all together.

Katee Robert weaves these elements seamlessly into the narrative, creating a story that’s as unpredictable as it is satisfying. Speaking of unpredictability, Katee gives us a polyamorous triad and adds the surprise of puppy play into the mix. It’s a testament to Katee Robert’s ability to keep readers on their toes and offer something fresh and unexpected in each installment of the Dark Olympus series.

The dynamic trio of Eurydice, Charon, and Orpheus brings a perfect blend of tension, passion, and emotional depth. The characters, flawed and complex, add layers to the story, and the messy politics of Olympus create a backdrop that adds an extra layer of intrigue.

Now friends, while I’m ecstatic about the focus on our trio, what adds another layer of excitement is the progression of the overarching Dark Olympus narrative. We have had hints that suggest the looming battle for Olympus is just around the corner and we finally see a bit of action on that front. The intricate politics, the complexities of the relationships, and the impending crisis create an atmosphere of anticipation that keeps me returning to Olympus. Katee Robert truly shines as she continues to deliver an engaging and multifaceted narrative that keeps us all eagerly awaiting the next installment. Luckily she doesn’t make us wait long.

Tomorrow, “Midnight Ruin” is available at your favorite bookseller. This is a must-read for fans of the Dark Olympus series. The series continues to evolve and surprise, and Katee Robert delivers another winner with this sixth book in the series. So as always friends, curl up in your favorite reading nook, prepare yourself for the chaos of Olympus, and dive into the steamy world of “Midnight Ruin.” Happy reading!
