Book Review: Same Time Next Year by Tessa Bailey

Hello, my romance loving friends! I’ve just devoured “Same Time Next Year” by the fabulous Tessa Bailey, and let me tell you, it’s a whirlwind of hockey, humor, and steamy romance. Just how I like it.

Meet Britta, an ambitious waitress at Sluggers, the beloved bar that holds more than a few memories for her. She has a strict no-dating policy for hockey boys (thanks to her half brother being a hockey boy for the Bridgeport Bandits), Britta has managed to keep her heart on lockdown. That is until Sumner Mayfield, a beast on the ice with dreams of breaking into the NHL, enters the scene. Facing an expiring work visa, The Bandits come up with a way to keep Sumner on the ice, and staying in Bridgeport. I am sure you can guess what these boys dream up. It involves a green card and a marriage proposal… to Britta!

On New Year’s Eve, the team urges Britta to marry Sumner on the spot. Hell, one of the hockey boys can even make it official. While Britta initially hesitates, something in Sumner’s soulful eyes and the way he treats her makes her reconsider, along with being able to reach a life goal of hers, being a partner in Sluggers. And so begins their fake marriage, a year-long journey full of unexpected twists, laughter, and, of course, sizzling chemistry.

The chemistry between Britta and Sumner is like an inferno, catching both them and unsuspecting readers by surprise. However, fans of Tessa Bailey will see this chemistry and swoon. True to her style she doesn’t hold back on the steamy scenes, making “Same Time Next Year” a perfect read for those who like their romances with a lot of spicy scenes.

Britta’s commitment phobia and Sumner’s desperation to recreate the happily ever after he saw growing up in his own childhood creates an interesting dynamic. The story takes us through their ups and downs over the course of a year, and while the timeline leaps forward, their connection remains at the forefront. The characters are relatable, lovable, and their banter adds a layer of humor that makes the novella even more fun to read. Their journey is a rollercoaster of emotions, and Tessa Bailey navigates it with her signature style, delivering a story that’s equal parts sweet, spicy, and satisfying.

So, if you’re in the mood for a quick and steamy hockey romance, “Same Time Next Year” is a must-read novella. So Kindle Unlimited members grab this free book, cozy up with a warm drink, and get ready for a love story that you will not be able to put down. Happy reading, book friends!
