Book Review: The Mistake by Elle Kennedy

Hey, friends! As you know I am working my way through the Off-Campus series in time for the release of the box set. This time I just finished Elle Kennedy’s “The Mistake,” and it’s a rollercoaster of emotions, with Elle’s trademark of sizzling chemistry, and redemption that I am sure will keep you hooked from the first page to the last. I definitely was!

This time the focus is on John Logan, the charming hockey star who seems to have it all—parties, hook-ups, and killer grins. You’ll remember he had a massive crush on Hannah from ‘The Deal’, but beneath the surface, he’s wrestling with the uncertainty of post-graduation life. A chance encounter with freshman Grace Ivers provides the perfect distraction, but a thoughtless mistake threatens to derail everything. Cue the drama, my friends!

Logan is not about to quit and his journey to win Grace back is nothing short of a romantic quest. His determination to prove he’s worth a second chance adds layers to his character that I didn’t expect. It’s a refreshing take on the typical college player trope, and you can’t help but root for him as he navigates the challenges of love and self-discovery.

And then, there’s Grace. We meet her during her freshman year before a blow up with Logan sends her across the ocean. But she’s not your typical damsel in distress. After a less-than-stellar freshman year, she’s back at Briar University with a newfound confidence and a clear understanding of what she wants. No more being a pushover for Logan. If he wants her back, he’s got to work for it. I loved her strength and independence, and the dynamic between her and Logan is a perfect blend of sweet and spicy.

The dialogue, as always with Elle Kennedy, is sharp and witty. The banter between the characters had me laughing one moment and holding my breath the next. It’s this balance that makes the story so engaging—it’s not just about the romance, but also about the connections and friendships that develop along the way.

And let’s not forget the steamy scenes. Elle Kennedy knows how to turn up the heat, and “The Mistake” is no exception. The chemistry between Logan and Grace is through the roof, adding an extra layer of intensity to their complicated relationship.

The college backdrop and the hockey element, once again, provide a vibrant setting for the story. It’s a world where emotions run high, and every goal on the ice mirrors the ups and downs of the characters’ lives.

“The Mistake” should be added to your TBR list. It’s for anyone who loves a good second-chance romance with a healthy dose of humor and heart. Elle Kennedy has again crafted a story that you won’t soon forget after you’ve turned the last page. So, grab a copy, find a cozy spot, and get ready for a love story that will knock your socks off! Happy reading, my friends!
