Book Review: The Witch Is Back by Sophie H. Morgan

Hi Friends!!! Enjoying spooky season? If you’re in the mood for a magical and romantic journey with a dash of witchcraft, then Sophie H. Morgan’s ‘The Witch Is Back’ is a must-read before Halloween ends. This enchanting novel weaves a tale of second-chance romance and the bewitching world of witches and warlocks that will leave you utterly spellbound.

The story follows the life of Emmaline Bluewater, a witch who never quite felt like she belonged in her magical society, especially after the mysterious departure of the man she was meant to marry. Emma has traded her witchy world for the bustling streets of Chicago, where she co-owns the whimsically named bar, “Toil and Trouble,” with her two close friends. Life seems to be running smoothly until a blast from the past, Bastian Truenote, reappears, requesting her help to honor an ancient magical contract that binds them in a marriage of convenience.

Right from the start, I found ‘The Witch Is Back’ to be an enjoyable read. It has been a while since I had my hands on a witchy romance, and this book reminded me just how cozy and fun they can be. Sophie H. Morgan skillfully introduces us to a world where animal familiars, incantations, and bewitching traditions coexist with our everyday reality, creating an intriguing backdrop for the characters’ journey.

One of the things I appreciated most about the book was the use of Emma and Bastian’s dual perspectives. By getting to see the story unfold from both points of view, it added depth to the characters and made it easier to empathize with their individual struggles. The third-person narration is a perfect choice for this story, allowing the reader to connect with each character’s inner thoughts and emotions.

At the beginning of the story, It is easy to hold a grudge against Bastian for abandoning Emma without any explanation. However, as the story unfolds, and we gradually learn about the circumstances surrounding his departure and how he has changed over the years, my opinion of him evolved. Both Emma and Bastian experience significant personal growth throughout the story, which is intricately tied to their rediscovery of each other after seven years apart.

A major turning point in the narrative is Bastian’s revelation of his compelling reason for returning to Emma and asking her to honor the ancient marriage contract. This decision leads to moments of delightful forced proximity and witty banter between the two protagonists, adding a spark of excitement to their rekindled connection.

Nevertheless, ‘The Witch Is Back’ is not without its moments of drama. Miscommunications between Emma and Bastian, as well as a third-act breakup, do introduce some bumps in the romantic journey. However, it’s worth noting that the witchy world thrives on its fair share of drama, which only adds to the overall charm of the book.

So my book friends, if you’re on the hunt for a spellbinding witchy romance filled with character growth, engaging banter, and a touch of spice, ‘The Witch Is Back’ by Sophie H. Morgan is the great choice this spooky season. Sophie’s masterful storytelling and the enchanting world she’s created will transport you to a place where love, magic, and destiny intersect in the most captivating ways. So, brew a cup of your favorite potion, cozy up, and prepare to be entranced.
