Book Review: Three Holidays and a Wedding by Uzma Jalaluddin and Marissa Stapley

Hi friends! my Libby app was feeling neglected after some ARC reviews I’ve posted here lately so I decided to show it some love. If you my dear readers are looking for a delightful holiday read that’s akin to a Hallmark holiday movie, featuring a mix of diverse celebrations and a touch of winter romance? “Three Holidays and a Wedding” by Uzma Jalaluddin and Marissa Stapley might just be your cup of hot cocoa.

The story revolves around Maryam Aziz and Anna Gibson, seatmates on a flight that takes an unexpected turn, leaving them snowbound in the picturesque town of Snow Falls. As they navigate the challenges of being stranded, they find comfort and friendship in each other, leading to unexpected romantic adventures amid the festive cheer.

The book takes a unique approach by encompassing not just one, but three holidays—Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan—making it an inclusive and enriching read. The authors provide a glimpse into the traditions and celebrations associated with these festivities, adding depth to the storyline which I loved. If you are looking for a clean romance to diversify your shelves- no need to keep reading. Grab this book, your blanket, and your cocoa and get to reading.

For the rest of us, the book does have its drawbacks. The plot tends to become repetitive and could have benefited from more varied character dynamics. Both protagonists, Maryam and Anna, display a similar struggle with self-assertion, which may leave readers yearning, however, it does showcase that despite our different backgrounds we share similar struggles. Sometimes we are more alike than we realize.

Then there is the romance in the book. While sweet, it lacks the spicy excitement that would have elevated the story for me. Those seeking a more passionate portrayal of romantic relationships may find the fade-to-black scenes a bit too subtle.

Despite these minor shortcomings, “Three Holidays and a Wedding” offers a cozy, heartwarming narrative that perfectly aligns with the festive season. It’s a charming choice if you’re in the mood for a light read that embraces the magic of the holidays and the joy of unexpected friendships. So, grab a warm blanket, a steaming cup of your favorite beverage, and immerse yourself in this delightful blend of winter romcoms and diverse celebrations.
